Q & A

All-time favorite song?

"Smile" by Nat King Cole.

How do you describe your music to people?

Variety of modern county and classic country, with a sprinkle of everyone's favorite rock/current songs mixed in. We are not your tear-in-your-beer country band. Lol.

Tell us about how the band formed.

Jessica and Mark met through a different bands' audition in 2015. Later, Jessica contacted Mark via email and inquired about starting a Country Band together from the ground up. Only meeting once before, Mark and Jessica took a leap together, as strangers, and started the process to create a band. The first band member brought on was bassist Ritch Shefke. MoonShine Crazy started performing together January 2016 and played the first year with two different guitar players before landing Jessica's friend and songwriting partner Dave Shafer in May of 2017.

Top 2:

1. New Year's Eve 2018 at Opera House Saloon. We have played festivals, fairs, and venues all over Sacramento, the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe. However, nothing beats a home crowd on a GREAT stage in one of our favorite venues! Plus, we decided to go sparkly—which Jessica loved. The boys wore matching flashy gold jackets, and Jessica dazzled in a sequin gold mini dress! It was a celebration of our hard work in 2018, and it was so much fun!

2. The past two years, we have held two sold-out benefit shows for fallen Sacramento Sheriff's Deputy Bob French, EOW: 8.30.17. We donated door proceeds to the Robert French Memorial Fund and created and sponsored scholarships for two current recruits attending the Sacramento Sheriff's Academy. As a band, we have donated more than $8,000. We are pro law enforcement and want to give back in any way we can.

Tell us about your worst gig.

We are very lucky to play some great gigs. However, if we must answer—an unnamed venue down south one night had some serious sound issues. The night wouldn't end fast enough. Lol.

What artist or band are you a little embarrassed to love, and why?

LeAnn Rimes. One of the first country songs I sang was "Blue." I can yodel! Her story and voice inspired me from a young age.

What was the first song you learned to play?

Church music.

What's next for the band?

Original music! We are currently writing, preparing to record and ALWAYS updating our current music catalog with the latest and greatest dance-able music, as well as guilty pleasures everyone can't help but party with us too!

What's the story behind the band name?

True or False: One of the guys started bringing MoonShine to rehearsals and it got a lil' CRAZY. "MoonShine Crazy" seemed fitting—It STUCK!

Answer: No one will ever know! ;)

What's your favorite local artist/group?

We have great relationships with local bands, and we wouldn't want to leave anyone out! We are honored to share stages with y'all all over the Sacramento region.

Who are your biggest influences?

Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean, and Little Big Town

Who first inspired you to play music?

My family.

Words to live by?

You don't have to get ready if you always stay ready!
