Q & A

Can you describe a moment in your musical career, where you felt like you truly reached somebody or made a difference?

01.28.20

The day I released my song “Birth,” which is about my son, I saw the online reaction from everyone. Fathers and mothers, friends and people I’ve never met. They all were commenting and sharing it. I didn’t let anyone know that my wife was pregnant so, for me, to just drop this out of nowhere the day my son was born was huge. That was a feeling that can probably never be duplicated because of many reasons.

How do you describe your music to people?

01.28.20

I tell 'em look—I can rap. I’m not gonna be trying to make a hit song. I’m gonna say some wild things at times, but bottom line: I can rap my ass off.

How do you feel about musical award competitions?

01.28.20

If you know me, you know I like competitions. I even do IG challenges all the time. It’s a good way to keep myself sharp lyrically. Music awards are cool. I’m not overly hyped about 'em, but when done correctly, it’s dope.

What's next for you?

01.28.20

I just released a self-titled EP and I have an EP with Jäywlkr dropping on Feb. 18 called Payton & Kemp and I also just signed a distribution deal with Conscious Music Group LLC/Empire. So I plan on touring and dropping more music all summer long.

What's the best part of this experience?

01.28.20

If you know my history with SN&R, you’ll know that I’m probably not meant to be here, haha. I’ve had my problems with the editors and writers over the years. The fact I’ve been nominated almost 10 years straight and have presented an award before and still haven’t won is hilarious. But I keep getting nominated and that means, to me, I’m still doing something right.
