Q & A

All-time favorite song?

02.04.19

Too many, I can't just pick one. However, currently I can't stop listening to Film School's album Bright to Death (2018). The whole album is brilliant but my favorite track is "The Celebration."

Question: What has the band recently been up to?

Answer: We released our third album Maps through Test Pattern Records last June. Fortunately, it has been well received and even noted on several best of 2018 lists including, The Big Takeover (http://bigtakeover.com/news/JackRabidsBestOf2018), PopMatters (https://www.popmatters.com/best-shoegaze-dream-pop-2018-2622968229.html), and Somewhere Cold (https://somewherecold.net/2018/12/04/somewherecold-top-25-shoegaze-dreampop-albums-of-2018/). We had some pretty amazing opportunities, like playing Paris Popfest, a few shows in Spain, and one in Porto, Portugal. We also played a shoegaze/dreampop fest called Kalamashoegazer in Kalamzoo, MI. 2018 was a great year for the band. We are very thankful so many people have listened to our music and liked what they heard!

What's next for the band?

02.04.19

We are playing a few live shows this year, and then we are going to focus on working on our next album. We just confirmed that we are playing a couple shows with the band Lighfoils from Chicago in March. In early April. we have a show in LA (Part Time Punks), and later that month we are heading up to Seattle to play Seagaze, a four-day shoegaze music festival.

What's the story behind the band name?

02.04.19

Finding a band name that is not being used by another group is not an easy task these days. After running through many ideas, we settled on Soft Science, which Ross came up with. We liked the meaning and felt it fit what we we're doing. Here is a definition: Any of the specialized fields or disciplines, as psychology, sociology, anthropology, or political science, that interpret human behavior, institutions, society, etc., on the basis of scientific investigations for which it may be difficult to establish strictly measurable criteria.

02.04.19

Desario, Arts and Leisure.

Who are your biggest influences?

02.04.19

We are very influenced by 1990s Shoegaze and Brit Pop just a few of the bands that have inspired us are: Ride, Lush, The Cure, House of Love, Jesus and Mary Chain, and The Field Mice.

Who first inspired you to play music?

02.04.19

Katie: I can only speak for myself. I cannot recall a time I did not enjoy music. I have always loved to sing, even as kid. My parents loved music, my mom sang, and my dad was a huge fan. They must be my first inspiration. There was always music playing in our house.

Words to live by?
